Opelika Downtown Business not taking extra precautions like Ivan. Several stores had taped windows last time around, but not this time. This is the view looking North on South 8th Street about 1:30PM Central.
Several homes on 3rd Ave on Opelika’s Northside had boarded some windows. Hopefully, they get the chairs off the porch before the winds come.

Missed this in the paper while in Detroit!
The Lee County Commission voted unanimously recently to support efforts in restoring the Salem-Shotwell bridge that collapsed into the Wacoochee River June 4.
“We would like very much to get the bridge back up,” said Carl Summers Jr., head of the Lee County Historical Society. “The main thing is to go ahead and get the tree cut and get a crane to get the bridge out of the water.” Read the complete story from the Auburn Plainsman by Yun Mi Yi
Got to hand it to The Plainsman, because their webiste always has some great pictures along with the web stories.

Remember a few years back, when Allen Woodall, former owner of South 106 (and my former crazy boss) at the time, had wanted to move and restore the bridge and put it in Salem by the antiques store on 280? The measure came before the commission and it was decided not to be a good plan. From what I remember, there’s been no car traffic on the bridge for quite some time. I believe the area was more of a “Lover’s Lane” for local young folk! The OA News could take lessons!
It just happens! Someone visits the site, ask some questions about blogging and then – Blam! (Or should that be Ala-Blam-A!!) They’re doing it too.
