Welcome Steve Nutter

Monday, September 12th, 2011

SteveNutterI’ve known Steve most of the 15 or so years I’ve called Opelika home.  We even went to Real Estate School together to make our fortunes.  Well, that didn’t work and for the past 10 or so years Steve’s been the man behind the local Longhorn Steakhouse.  Those of us that know Steve, know he’s wanted a restaurant in downtown Opelika for years, so Today, he became the franchisee for the Irish Bred Pub.  August marked the one year anniversary for the Pub, which has been a popular night spot, not to mention lunch location for the past year.  Welcome Steve. It’s good to have you home.

New Industry in Opelika Creates Over 400 Jobs

Monday, September 12th, 2011

Opelika officials are holding a press conference at 2PM on Tuesday to announce a new industry coming to the state and Opelika. Governor Robert Bentley is expected to be in town for the announcement.  New industry is always good, but learning it’s not in the automotive sector is good as well.

The Birmingham News reported this:  A manufacturing project plans to come to Alabama, investing up to $110 million and creating hundreds of jobs and giving the state a foothold on a new industry that could lead to suppliers and other manufacturers, parties close to the negotiations said.

An announcement could come as soon as this week from the company, known to economic developers as Project Omega. The project is said to have just under 500 jobs and could have a capital investment of between $70 million and $110 million.

Economic developers from the Alabama Development Office along with Gov. Robert Bentley’s office have been working to lure the project to the state for several months. The city of Opelika Economic Development Office said Friday it plans an announcement on Tuesday.

Several city and company officials dined in downtown Opelika Monday, prior to the Tuesday Announcement.

New Mail Routes in Opelika Today

Saturday, August 27th, 2011

I understand that Opelika Mail Carries changed up some routes beginning today.  Apparently, the new routes are more efficient and don’t have carriers crossing each others paths a lot.  This may affect the normal time of your delivery today and in the future.
