I’m Jerry Katz and I never planned to live in Alabama and write a blog, but here I am.  This small spot on the web has been more a labor of love than anything else.  When an old radio guy moves on beyond the studio, he’s just got to find an outlet, a place to talk, but in a different way.

In it’s earliest form in early 2002 I devoted more time to travels with work, folks along way and new Craft Beers tasted.  Now, with work related travel over, I’m talking more about Opelika, the people, places, events and the beers that pretty much shape my life today.  Then there’s the continuing saga of my downtown home renovation and Bo & new brother Mitch, the amazing sofa eating dogs!  And yes, after a while, the whistle of a passing train in the night is like a song.

I’ve been lucky to gather a rather eclectic group of friends along the way that help feed this site with ideas, insight and street talk.  And every now and then they find that picture from 30 years ago that reminds us all of simpler times. I truly value these friends the most.  I won’t mention them here, as you’ll see them appear again and again in past and future postings.

In the real world, I work as an account manager for a broadcast related software company with offices in Idaho, Oregon and here in Alabama.  The office is within walking distance of my house, as is Eighth & Rail which could be the official Tavern of this site.  So, for me, life is good in Opelika, Alabama. Join the conversation!
