Pam had this to say to the Opelika Daily News. “I look forward to the ever changing future of Mainstreet and am glad that I’ll be a part of it! I care so much for this downtown and want to see it become everything that it can be. And I hope that merchants and other downtown players never hesitate to stop me with comments and suggestion. Stacy Money a member of the board had this to say, “We are excited about the future of Opelika Main Street with Pam Powers-Smith serving as our director. She has a passion for Downtown Opelika and is a great fit for our organization”.

Well, when you’re ready to take the tree down this year you’ve got a couple of choices. You can haul it over to the Opelika Chamber of Commerce Parking lot now, or wait for Saturday Morning, when you can swap it for a tree seedling. Keep Opelika Beautiful and the Opelika Tree Commission along with other volunteers will gather the trees on Saturday. Some will be ground to mulch, while others will become feeding areas in local lakes. The official project time is Saturday, 9AM til 2PM.

In the final count, it was a big success as over 400 trees were collected even with rain in the area!
